Yarn Yardage & Skein Calculator — frequently asked questions

How does this yarn yardage calculator work?+

It uses your gauge swatch area and the grams of yarn it consumed to estimate grams for the full project area, then converts grams to yards, meters, and skeins using the yarn label.

What should I enter for the gauge swatch?+

Use a washed and blocked swatch when possible. Enter the measured swatch width and height, the stitches and rows counted across that area, and the grams of yarn used for the swatch.

Can it handle cables, ribbing, or colorwork?+

Yes. Free mode uses a plain-fabric estimate. Pro unlocks stitch-texture multipliers for garter stitch, ribbing, cables, and stranded colorwork, plus custom buffer scenarios.

Is my yarn or project data sent to a server?+

No. Project size, swatch measurements, stitch density, yarn weight, skein labels, and yardage estimates are calculated entirely in your browser.
